Nicknamed the “Fat Lady” (or “Sophia Loren”) due to its thicker case, this reference was designed to accommodate the new Caliber 3085 movement—an important advancement that allowed the local hour hand to be adjusted independently from the GMT hand.
This innovation made tracking multiple time zones more intuitive and practical, particularly for frequent travelers. The 16760 was also the first GMT model to feature a sapphire crystal and white gold surrounds on the hour markers, setting the foundation for future generations of the GMT-Master II.
