About the Rolex Day-Date 36 – Ref. 18038 (18k Yellow Gold / Champagne Service Dial / 36mm):
The Rolex Day-Date ref. 18038 represents an important chapter in the evolution of Rolex's flagship model. Introduced as a successor to earlier Day-Date references, it maintained the collection's hallmark full day and date displays while introducing the caliber 3055 movement.
A key feature of the caliber 3055 was the addition of the Quickset date function, allowing the date to be adjusted independently without advancing the hands through multiple 24-hour cycles. This made the ref. 18038 significantly more convenient to use while preserving the classic 36mm yellow gold case, fluted bezel, and timeless Day-Date aesthetic. Positioned between the earlier vintage references and the later double Quickset models, the 18038 offers a compelling blend of classic Rolex character and improved functionality.
